Habitations Paul-Pratt, located in Longueuil, is a non-profit community housing organization. Considering housing to be a determining factor in the health of seniors, Habitations Paul-Pratt’s mission is to provide healthy, safe, and stimulating living environments for its residents.
The Paul-Pratt Le Manoir housing project was carried out by completely renovating an old convent and an ancestral home, between which a new building was constructed. With all the spaces needing to be redesigned, Cléo Katcho wanted to take a different approach from those generally recommended for this type of residence. The proposal was to create a living environment that would make the most of the brightness, color, conviviality, modernity, and even the playful character of the place.
Vibrant colors were assigned to each floor and highlighted to make it easier for residents to find their way around. Careful attention was paid to the choice of materials, finishes, and furnishings, which had to be high-performance, i.e., both durable and easy to clean, while meeting the needs of residents and staff (vinyl flooring, chairs with polypropylene armrests, no carpeting, etc.).
The success of the Habitations Paul-Pratt Le Manoir project among residents confirmed our vision that seniors are not resistant to modernity and change—quite the contrary. I wanted to offer something that stood out from the norm while, of course, meeting all the required accessibility standards and functionalities expected of a retirement home. The use of space, sustainability, maintenance, and resident fulfillment were all key factors in the development of this project.
