BMO Capital Markets is a member of BMO Financial Group and a leading provider of comprehensive financial services to corporations and clients worldwide.
The need to relocate the BMO Capital Markets team from their luxurious tower in downtown Montreal to a more historic building in Old Montreal proved to be a major challenge. It was important that the new workspaces reflect the importance of BMO Capital Markets within the bank and its highly talented employees. Accustomed to receiving clients in a luxurious building offering a range of services, the Capital Markets team had to be convinced that the new premises, which were dark and less imposing, could be fitted out to meet their expectations and needs.
The inclusion of high-end materials in the design, such as wood paneling, porcelain tiles, quartz countertops, and onyx reception desks, helped to create a luxurious environment. In addition, the addition and design of a reception desk in the building’s lobby and a catering kitchen made it possible to include services that the BMO Capital Markets team and clients were previously accustomed to.
The lack of natural light in the spaces required the development of an unusual lighting concept, providing each space with appropriate lighting. For example, soothing blue lighting was incorporated into the employee café-lounge to promote relaxation. The creation of an inviting light tunnel to connect spaces and multidirectional lighting to reduce eye strain for stockbrokers are just a few examples of the importance of lighting solutions, using Lumenpulse products, in this project.
We had a great challenge to take on here, and we did it successfully! The client was thrilled with our proposal, and their expectations were met. In fact, this project earned a nomination as a finalist for the Grands Prix du Design awards. We worked to develop a high-end environment that matched the services and employees of BMO Capital Markets. The materials, a mural specially designed for this project, the lighting effects, and the addition of services for employees (café-kitchen catering) and customers are all elements that contributed to the success of this project.
